What is NeoLife Omega-3 Salmon Oil Plus?
NeoLife Omega-3 Salmon Oil Plus is an omega-3 fish oil food supplement, sold in the UK as 90 softgel capsules — 30 servings at the recommended three softgels a day. Each serving provides 1,070 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, which NeoLife describes as roughly the equivalent of one serving of oily fish.
What separates one fish oil supplement from another is rarely the size of the capsule. It is how much EPA and DHA the serving actually delivers, how many of the omega-3 family are present, and how carefully the oil has been screened. This page sets out all three for this product, using the figures published in NeoLife’s own product documentation.
Omega-3 Salmon Oil Plus is made by NeoLife, a nutrition company whose formulations are built around whole-food concentrates. It is a food supplement, intended to complement your diet — not to replace a varied and balanced one.
What’s inside each serving?
Figures below are per three-softgel daily serving, taken from NeoLife’s current product information (product code 929).
| Nutrient | Per daily serving |
|---|---|
| Total omega-3 fatty acids | 1,070 mg |
| EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) | 460 mg |
| DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) | 480 mg |
| DPA (docosapentaenoic acid) | 50 mg |
| Five other omega-3 fatty acids | 80 mg combined |
| Omega-3 fatty acids present | 8, in standardised amounts |
| Serving size | 3 softgels |
| Pack size | 90 softgels (net weight 92.34 g) |
| Servings per pack | 30 |
Those four figures add up exactly: 460 + 480 + 50 + 80 = 1,070 mg. That is worth pointing out, because on many labels the headline number and the itemised breakdown do not reconcile.
Why EPA and DHA matter
EPA and DHA are the two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids that carry authorised nutrition claims in Great Britain, and they are the two figures worth comparing across any fish oil product.
- EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA.
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision. The beneficial effects are obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
Both conditions are met comfortably by a single daily serving of this product: 940 mg of combined EPA and DHA against a 250 mg condition, and 480 mg of DHA against a 250 mg condition. Those are the only claims we make for it, and they are the wording permitted in Great Britain — nothing here is a claim to prevent, treat or cure anything.
What makes this omega-3 supplement different?
Three things are genuinely unusual about this formulation, and one thing is worth being straight about.
Eight omega-3s, not two. Most fish oil supplements are specified on EPA and DHA alone. This one is standardised across eight omega-3 fatty acids, including 50 mg of DPA — a third long-chain omega-3 found in fish oil that is rarely itemised on a label at all.
The oil is processed, not just bottled. NeoLife uses what it calls a Molecular Differentiation process, an approach that selectively concentrates the target nutrient molecules while reducing unwanted compounds. That is the mechanism behind the contaminant figures in the next section.
100% wild-caught and sustainably sourced. NeoLife states that Omega-3 Plus is formulated using oil from 100% sustainably sourced fish, using oils certified by third-party organisations. We are not naming a specific certifying body here, because NeoLife’s documentation does not name one.
And the honest part: we cannot tell you this will make you feel different. Nobody selling a food supplement can tell you that, and a page that promised it would be breaking UK advertising rules. What we can do is show you the numbers and let you compare them.
Purity and quality
Fish oil purity matters more than it does for most supplements, because the contaminants that accumulate in the marine food chain — heavy metals, PCBs, pesticide residues — are fat-soluble, and fish oil is fat.
NeoLife screens the oil used in Omega-3 Salmon Oil Plus for more than 200 potential contaminants, including PCBs, pesticides and toxic heavy metals such as mercury and lead. The allowable detection limit is zero — not “within legal limits”, but not detected.
That is a sourcing and testing standard, not a health claim, and it is the specification we would look at first when comparing fish oils.
How to take NeoLife Omega-3
The recommended daily serving is three softgels. A 90-softgel bottle therefore lasts 30 days at the full serving.
Alongside that, the label carries the standard advice that applies to every food supplement:
- Do not exceed the stated recommended daily dose.
- Food supplements must not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
- Keep out of reach of children.
For ingredients and the full nutrition declaration, check the label on the product itself — that is the definitive source, and we would rather point you at it than paraphrase it.
Who may consider an omega-3 supplement?
UK dietary guidance is food-first: the NHS advises at least two portions of fish a week, one of them oily — salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout or herring. If you reliably eat oily fish every week, you may not need a supplement at all.
The people who tend to look at omega-3 supplements are those who do not: people who dislike fish, who rarely cook it, or whose weekly shop simply never includes it. A supplement is a way of closing that specific gap.
This is general information rather than personal advice. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take prescribed medication — particularly anything affecting blood clotting — or have a diagnosed health condition, speak to your GP or pharmacist before starting a fish oil supplement.
Omega-3 from food vs supplements
Oily fish is the richest natural source of EPA and DHA, and it brings protein, iodine, selenium and vitamin D along with it — none of which a fish oil capsule provides. Food first is the right default.
The practical difficulty is consistency. Two portions a week, every week, is a habit rather than an intention, and most people do not manage it. A supplement provides a known, repeatable quantity: with this product, 940 mg of EPA and DHA every day, whatever the week looked like.
Plant sources such as flaxseed and walnuts supply ALA, a shorter-chain omega-3 that the body converts into EPA and DHA only inefficiently — which is why plant oils and fish oils are not interchangeable. If you are vegan, algae oil rather than fish oil is the route to preformed EPA and DHA; we do not currently stock one.
What should you compare when choosing an omega-3 supplement?
Most fish oil products are marketed on the total weight of oil per capsule, which tells you very little. These are the specifications worth putting side by side — whichever brand you end up buying.
| What to check | Why it matters | This product |
|---|---|---|
| Total omega-3 per serving | The headline figure, and the one to read before the capsule weight | 1,070 mg |
| EPA per serving | Half of the authorised heart claim, which needs 250 mg of EPA and DHA combined | 460 mg |
| DHA per serving | Carries the brain and vision claims in its own right, at 250 mg | 480 mg |
| DPA per serving | A third long-chain omega-3, rarely itemised on a label | 50 mg |
| Number of omega-3s | Most products specify two; fish oil naturally contains more | 8, standardised |
| Contaminant screening | Fat-soluble contaminants concentrate in fish oil | 200+ screened, zero detection limit |
| Serving size | Determines the real cost per day, not the shelf price | 3 softgels |
| Servings per pack | Tells you how long a pack actually lasts | 30 |
Run those eight rows against any fish oil you are considering. If a product will not tell you its EPA and DHA per serving, that is itself a useful answer.
